Why Am I Doing This?

I have been in the automotive industry for 25 years as I write this, including the last 10 as a General Manager. I didn’t go to NADA Dealer Academy or have formal training, but rather relied on mentors to help me figure out how to run a store.

The advent of the internet definitely helped, as there is a way to learn almost anything in a short period of time or connect with others who have gone down the same path.

I tackle every day with the expectation of giving to others first (thanks to the late Jim Rohn!) and then being in the position to receive for myself. In that spirit, I am taking the plunge and starting a blog so that I may help others in the automotive industry, specifically dealership General Managers and other executives.

From my studies with Bob Proctor and the Proctor Gallagher Institute, I will try my best to deliver value and leave everyone with the feeling of increase. Bear with me, though, as I promise to get better and better each time I post!

I would also love to get feedback on topics you would like me to address. There are no shortage of things going on in the car business today and “disruption” is the buzzword that won’t go away anytime soon (a quick Google search will yield you over 11 million results!).

Things right off the top of my head:

  • What is the future of the franchised dealership?
  • Do people really want to buy cars online?
  • How do I motivate my team in today’s environment?
  • Where do I find the employees we’ll need for the next 20 years?
  • How do I structure effective pay plans?
  • How do I choose the right vendor for (insert your dealership’s need)?

So please reach out, leave a comment or let me know how I can help you.

Make it an awesome day! (it’s a choice)

Dan
